The Soteria Network Southwest and the Bridge Collective hosted a Choices in Approaches event on Wednesday 9th April 2014 – looking at creating a local alternative to conventional mental health services.

The event was a big success attended by 66 people coming together, sharing ideas, concerns and questions and coming up with some first steps together in bringing about more choice in approaches locally. It was great to see so many people.

Thank you to all for coming, being in touch, sharing ideas, concerns and questions and for coming up with some first steps together in bringing about more choice in approaches locally. Thank you to all the team of people on the day and behind the scenes for making the day happen.*

Exeter James Davies Seminar Flyer

“This is madness” Public Forum

Talk and discussion by Dr James Davies

17th February, 7-9pm  at St Stephen’s Church, Exeter

Why is psychiatry such big business? Why are so many psychiatric drugs prescribed, and why, without solid scientific justification, has the number of mental disorders risen from 106 in 1952, to around 370 today?

In this talk, Dr James Davies takes us behind the scenes of how the psychiatrist’s bible, the DSM, was actually written – did science drive the construction of new mental disorder categories like ADHD, major depression and Aspergers? – or were less-scientific and unexpected processes at play? His exclusive interviews with the creators of the DSM reveal the troubling answer.
